Workshop Foreman

Part of the Dunstall Holdings Groups, Rea Valley Tractors (RVT) was established over 30 years ago and is a leading regional agricultural machinery dealer. We supply an extensive range of agricultural machinery throughout Shropshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire and mid Wales and also sell high-quality used equipment across the UK and abroad.  We have four depots in Newport, Shrewsbury, Sudbury and Welshpool.  The main machinery franchises we represent are John Deere and JCB.  We employ over 140 people.

Purpose and Scope

Executes customer requests by coordinating and directing the service workload for maximum efficiency and productivity while providing quality repair work. Shares information regarding Technician skills and training needs to the Service Manager. Aftermarket sales oriented.

This is a full-time role based on a 40-hour week from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday with a requirement to work Saturday mornings on a rota basis.

Duties and Key Responsibilities

  • Performs complex diagnostics and repairs on agricultural equipment.
  • Assist the Service Management to allocate work to Technicians based on their expertise and skills.
  • Provides guidance and supports technicians on diagnostics/repairs when required.
  • Mentors Technicians and Apprentices.
  • Directs and assists Technicians in their tasks to ensure repairs are completed correctly.
  • Checks all completed jobs to ensure they are complete and accurate for both parts and labour.
  • Ensures that service processes, policies and guidelines are followed and applied safely.
  • Responsible for the special tool inventory and recommends the purchase of new tools if necessary.
  • Maintains good discipline and organization for the workshop, ensuring it is clean, tidy and safe.
  • Shares daily discussions with the Service Management to review workshop performance and to address any specific issues.
  • Coordinates the training program with the Service Management and ensures that tasks given to Technicians are consistent with their expertise.
  • Manages ongoing relationships with manufacturer personnel.
  • Supervises and coaches the workshop team.
  • Stand in for the Service Management during holidays and training.

Essential Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience performing service repairs.
  • Ability to perform repairs and required maintenance using special tools and equipment following approved technical procedures.
  • Proficient knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems to affect the repair of agricultural equipment.
  • Ability to use standard computer applications, internet functions and manufacturer service applications.
  • Ability to lead others.
  • High level of communication and human relations.
  • Familiar with John Deere, JCB, Kuhn and competitive products.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends.
